"Try Everything. As long you you don't hurt yourself or anyone else, try it all."
Whoa wait, huh?!?!?!?!
Yeah. It was pretty dumb. We've got one of those Brita water filter pitchers and I set it on the countertop and pulled the retractable nozzle from the sink over and set it in the pitcher with a very slow trickle to fill it up. Those things take forever to fill... I got distracted by the laundry buzzer going off. I took care of the clothes and forgot about the water and went downstairs and started messing around on the computer. A few hours later all the fire alarms go off. They are all linked together so if one goes off - - they all go off. I looked around the house and couldn't find a fire, but I did notice the big puddle in the kitchen. Still didn't make any connection. I went outside and circled our unit looking for any signs of fire. Nothing. No neighbors alarms going off either. This was just about midnight when all this was happening and Ellen was supposed to get up at 4 AM for an early work day the next day...I grabbed the ladder and started disconnecting and pulling down all the alarms. Finally, I go down to Ellen's room to pull down the fire detector and once I twist it and pull it down, I get a trickle of water from the ceiling behind it... The water from upstairs had gone through the floor and shorted out the fire detector. Ug.We toweled everything up (about 14 towels) and went to bed fully expecting warped floor and god knows what else in the morning. Got lucky this time. Not a trace. Phew! We're still going to have a guy come out and look in the ceiling to see if anything was seriously damaged, but I'm hoping that I'm off the hook on this one... Next time the pitcher goes in the sink while being filled.
